Hibs legend Lawrie Reilly. Link to Scotsman story. [1]Glasgow, Scotland | Lawrie Reilly, the only surviving member of a Scotland side that in 1952 was the last to play the United States in Hampden Park, recalls the event as “a walk in the park really [1].” Scotland, behind a Reilly hat trick, won 6–0 over a team similar to the one that had beaten England in the 1950 World Cup finals. Reilly has odd recollections: Americans were “all wearing thick padded mittens, that looked like boxing gloves.”

U.S. goalkeeper Frank Borghi also displayed interesting form whilst distributing the ball after a back pass. He threw it from behind his head like a gridiron quarterback, ten yards over the halfway line. “It prompted bemused cheers from the locals.”
