Football lover and sports lover always find the way to play the game. they are motivated. Its a good news that American mission worker refers to the peace she discovered at a soccer field. Thank you John Turnbul.

My wife's family always told her that her Grandfather, William Grant, took his share of the proceeds from the sale of his family's Scotch business and used it to buy a soccer club in the Newark area. This would have been after WWI, do you have any record of a William Grant owning a team?

A footnote to John's extraordinary piece: Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng was one of the founding members of Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa's most popular club. After he left Orlando Pirates with Kaizer Motaung and Zero Johnson in 1970, the bespectacled Ratha received death threats, presumably from supporters of Pirates.

It's also worth mentioning that Eudy Simelane was prominently remembered in the District Six Museum's 2010-2011 exhibition "Offside: Kick Ignorance Out, Football Unites & Racism Divides." For those folks interested in reading my review of this exhibit, read it in: The Public Historian, Vol. 33, No. 3 (Summer 2011), pp. 154-157.
